I don’t think there’s a magic formula to getting more auditions because the business is subjective and very much out of the actors control. What we can control is staying ready so when the opportunity comes You stand out as the only choice to bring the token you life. Staying ready in my mind is not just relying on my agent but finding my own work through Actors Access, Casting Networks, Backstage, student films and keep training and reading books on the craft. Actor led training has been eye opening and opportunities for networking.

I will say, I think definitely my first few credits were because of Casting Director workshops. If you do them, I would recommend just focusing on very specific casting directors that cash shows in your type, do you like five a year at the most. And not do the endless carousel of trying to hit as many as possible. That’s my humble advice. Also, in the ones where you get to Audition and see the other actors audition with the same sides. You actually do learn quite a lot. You see the things that work and don’t work, and you understand how someone could be called back.

Michael, this me having at it to help Alison out. Just as you can't 'make' someone like you or choose you, so I believe it's true in the 'more auditions' or 'more of the right auditions' scenario. I'm in my 60th year. Have I 'made it'? No. Have I therefore 'failed'? No. Keep a pure heart, be of service in whatever way you can, look after relationships of all kinds, take care of the body and voice, and....feel free to ignore all this advice! I hope this helps Alison. From Simon in London
