Such a vital warning, and not something we often think about. But it can make all the difference in how you're perceived. Whatever the strength of your desire to fix something, knowing it's not your job is is way more important. A sacred protocol. Thank you for the reminder — and when you think about it, the rule applies equally to film and TV. It's always a terrible idea to undercut the director, whether it's shooting a film role, a TV guest star role or even a commercial. Quiet professionalism is king.

Thanks for this Michael. I too have succumbed to wanting to "fit in" and got sucked into the "what do you think" conversations to and from a fellow actors on a recent Episodic TV job . It is tempting, especially for a "small but pivotal role" where we plug in for a day or 2 and want to be accepted by series regular family. Helps to watch and listen, which is hard sometimes.

“These six [things] doth the Lord hate, yea, seven are an abomination unto him: … he that soweth discords among brethren.” (Proverbs 6:19) This phenomenon has been known for millennia. Thanks for bringing it up in a constructive way.
