Interesting. Something I never considered or thought about. I love it!

Absolutely! It is prime real estate. I (we) realized it when I did an audition that I was requested to do through my agent. This wasn't some she would have normally sent me out for but turned out I was very good at. The thing is I was in the character from the get go and from the time I did my slate till the end of the audition I was that guy. Blew my agent away and did very well with the client. I wasn't just sending a signal to the client, I was planting my feet for myself. (goosebumps looking back) Happy Holidays😊

Great video, Michael. Slating is always tricky. Nice to have your thoughts on this!

David has a similar technique for slating for a VO job where you start slating normally and change your voice to match the character as you finish the slate.

I think this is great for the slate 'signal' but when it comes to anything more extended - a conversation say via Zoom - then I wonder about their concern that they have to spend days/weeks with 'this guy': especially if the character exhibits 'difficult' traits: what do you think?

I strongly agree. Some actors get desperately chatty thinking they're making points. Always read the room. What I'm talking about in this video is mostly non-verbal. MK
